Basque Mountains
The Basque Mountains (in Basque "Euskal Mendiak") is a mountain range in the Basque Country and Navarre, in the far east of the Cantabrian Mountains. Further east we find the beginning of the Aizkorri, Urkilla and Aralar. The southern section of the mountains includes the mountains of Iturrieta, Entzia, urbasa and Andía from west to east.
The mountain range consists largely of limestone and at lower altitudes it consists of pine trees. The slopes are slanted, but at higher altitudes we find rougher limestone cliffs, where different birds of prey live. The rocks are also popular among climbers. In the Macizo de Amboto houses the most important rock climbing school in the country.
