Natural Park Lake of Sanabria and Sierras Segundera y de Porto

The Lake of Sanabria and Sierras Segundera y de Porto is a natural park located in the northwest of the province of Zamora in Castilla y León, in the foothills of the mountain ranges of Sierra Segundera and the Sierra de Cabrera. It is part of the Galician-Leonese Massif.

The Lake Sanabria is the most distinctive part of the park. Located at an altitude of about 1,000 meters above sea level near Puebla de Sanabria, it is the largest glacial lake on the Iberian Peninsula, covering an area of 3.47 km² with a maximum depth of 53 meters.

In the vicinity of the lake we find gorges, waterfalls and more than twenty lagoons, such as in the Sierra Segundera, like the lagoons of Malladones, Pencina, Pico, Sotillo, Clara, Camposagado, Cárdena, Río Pequeño, Garandones, Raya, Mancas, Pies Juntos, Cuadro and Lacillo. In this mountain range, where the Ice Age has clearly left its mark, we find various peaks above 2,000 meters, such as the Moncalvo, Moncalvillo and Alto del Xurvial.
