Sierra Calderona
The Sierra Calderona is a mountain range that is located in the provinces of Castellón and Valencia, in the Autonomous Community of Valencia, at about only 20 kilometers from the city of Valencia between the basins of the rivers Palancia and Turia in the following municipalities: Albalat de Taronchers, Alcublas, Algimia de Alfara, Estivella, Gátova, Gilet, Liria, Marines, Náquera, Olocau, El Puig, Puzol, Sagunto, Serra, Torres Torres, Segart, la Villa de Altura and Segorbe.
The mountains are foothills of the Iberian System ( Sistema Ibérico ) and lie almost entirely below 1,000 metres, with the exception of the Montemayor in the far northwest. The landscape is a rugged terrain with sandstone and limestone with mostly pine trees and cork oaks. Because it is close to the Mediterranean Sea, it gives nice views over the sea and has a Mediterranean climate with an average temperature of 17 degrees. Since 2002 it is a nature park.
